Description
The Franchi Condor is part of Luige Franchis made-to-order line of fine sidelock shotguns. According to the date on the water table this shotgun was made in 1948. Based on its appearance, I am speculating that it spent most of its 72 years in a gun cabinet. The breach face is clean with no signs of use and the chopper lump barrels retain 99% of their original rust blue. The gun is stocked to the fences in the style of British Best Guns. The butt stock contains several light scratches on the left side and several just forward of the toe. Checkering is well cut at about 98% condition. In all, I would rate the lightly figured wood at 93%. The trigger guard runs full tang to the grip cap and screw heads are indexed even under the forearm. The receiver and sidelocks are adorned with approximately 90% bouquet and scroll hand cut engraving with a nitrated finish. The rib is hand cut with a file. The barrels are well struck and measure 70mm or 27.5 inches and ring clearly with no lose ribs. The joint between the receiver and the fore end iron is very finely fitted.
This gun presents itself well and represents an excellent value for a hand fitted side lock shotgun.
